Türkiye's second astronaut set for suborbital mission

Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır has announced that the country's second astronaut, Tuva Cihangir Atasever, will embark on a suborbital research flight on June 8 from a U.S. facility.

Atasever was previously designated as the backup astronaut for the country's first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı.

Turkish, Japanese space agencies sign cooperation deal

The Turkish Space Agency (TUA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) signed a cooperation agreement on Oct. 27.

According to a press release by the TUA, the agreement was signed on cooperation for peaceful purposes by the presidents of the two agencies during the ongoing International Astronautical Congress in Dubai.

International Astronautical Federation registers Turkish Space Agency

The International Astronautical Federation registered the membership of the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), the agency said late on Oct. 25. 

The federation has more than 400 members in 71 countries, including space agencies, firms, research institutions, universities, and NGOs.

Turkey unveils space agency's strategic plan for 2022-26

The Turkish Space Agency's strategic plan for 2022-26 was unveiled in a report on Oct. 20, setting out its aim of making Turkey globally competitive through developing the aerospace sector.

The report contains the basic principles and policies of the space agency, medium- and long-term goals, and performance criteria.
