Facebook announced June 30 it had opened its first African office in Johannesburg as part of its efforts "to help people and businesses connect" on the continent.

Social media, selfie used to trace owners of lost camera
A man who found a digital camera on Sunday morning used social media to try and find its owner by posting a “selfie” from its memory.
The picture showed a woman and a youth smiling atop the Acropolis in central Athens.
Alex Pitropakis posted the photograph, and the rest is history.
FB wants to connect everybody…no matter where – Debuts 'lite' version
It’s not enough that some “netizens” spend countless hours on Facebook, now the world’s pre-eminent social media site has unveiled a “lite” version of itself, debuting a new app for Android that only takes up 1 MB of storage space.
The normal Facebook app takes up about 25 MB of storage space.
Facebook Messenger Video Chat Now Available in Bulgaria
The Free Facebook Messenger Video Chat is already available in Bulgaria. The social network management has announced that the service still needs to be refined but is currently available in almost any country around the world.
Users that would like to use the video chat need to update their Messenger apps. The service is now available for both Android and iOS and is free of charge.
LinkedIn joins Twitter in Q1 post-earnings tumble
Dumping social media stocks that show any sign of weakness is trending on Wall Street.
Shares of LinkedIn Corp. plunged 21 percent in after-hours trading on April 29 after the professional networking service gave a disappointing outlook for the second quarter, weighed in large part by its pending purchase of online learning company Lynda.com.

Just turn it off
This is a call to the government: Please do not hesitate to take Turkey off the Internet grid. It is the ultimate solution to all of your problems. I do not understand why our government is still trying to reason with small companies like Facebook and Twitter. Our government should not waste their precious time with these companies and their executives.

Microsoft brings document scanner app to iPhones, Android
Microsoft Corp said on April 2 it is bringing one of its most popular apps, which lets people take photos of a document and turn it into a editable file, to Apple Inc's iPhone and Google Inc's Android.
The app, called Office Lens, is already available on phones running Windows, but has had little exposure given Windows' minute share of the smartphone market.
