Researchers make breakthrough in predicting adult height in children
Researchers at Slovenia's Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) and Ljubljana Faculty of Sport have developed a new method to predict adult height in children and teenagers, using extensive population data and artificial intelligence. The new predictions are much more precise than those based on methods currently in use.
Three women researchers win L’Oréal-UNESCO grants
Physicist Tanja Goričanec, biochemist Klara Kuret and chemical engineer Ana Oberlintner have won the national L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science scholarships for 2023.
The trio were awarded the €5,000 scholarships on 1 March to join the 46 promising young women researchers who have won the awards in Slovenia in the 17 years since the start of the programme.

Sportswear manufacturers Adidas and Lululemon have applied the findings that Slovenian researchers have made about differences between human feet to design brand new pairs of women's trainers.
Epidemic decline getting slower, say IJS experts
Ljubljana- The latest projections by the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) indicate that the epidemic in Slovenia is subsiding at an increasingly slower pace. The epidemic curve might even be at the point of stagnation, the IJS said, noting that Slovenia was still firmly in tier red according to EU criteria. The basic reproductive number has increased.

Days of Jožef Stefan kick off online
Ljubljana – Days of Jožef Stefan will kicked off online yesterday with Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) head Boštjan Zalar addressing the opening ceremony. Until Saturday several lectures and other events will be held to popularise science and honour the memory of the famous physicist that gave the name to Slovenia’s top research institute.

Slovenia projected to progress to yellow phase in mid-May
Ljubljana – The Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) has noted that the Covid-19 epidemic in Slovenia is stagnating in terms of the number of positive tests, with the basic reproduction number standing at around one. It projects that the next, yellow phase of restrictions easing could be reached in mid-May.
