This year's weddings are expected to contribute 500 billion Turkish Liras ($15.3 billion) to the economy as the season kicks off early this year, a sector representative has said.

The trend of hiring "fake marriage officers" is surging among couples whose wedding dates do not align with venue reservations but want to meet their guests' expectations by organizing symbolic wedding ceremonies.

When Ja'Nay Ford Hill, 31, and Ryon Hill, 32, of Dallas got married in Colleyville, Texas, in 2022, their 200-person ceremony included four children: two flower girls and two ring bearers. The trend of child-free weddings is spreading in Greece with an increasing number of couples choosing it for their own celebration, though not everyone is on board with the idea.

Around 600,000 couples are expected to tie the knot this year in Türkiye, with a wedding ceremony costing at least 250,000 Turkish Liras.

Weddings are giving a boost to consumer goods and services. Couples are buying white goods, furniture and home appliances and paying large amounts for renting venues, hairdressers and other wedding-related services.

With prices rapidly increasing in every sector in the country, wedding venue booking prices have also almost doubled compared to last year, adding to the troubles of couples planning to get married.

Famous Turkish basketball player Cedi Osman, who plays for NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, has tied the knot with actress Ebru Şahin at a wedding ceremony in the western province of İzmir's coastal district Çeşme.

Some 250 celebrities and family members gathered at the ceremony on July 9.

"We are very excited," said the 27-year-old captain of the Turkish national basketball team.
