Deniz Yücel, reporter from Germany's Die Welt, arrested in Turkey

The Turkish authorities on Feb. 27 arrested a correspondent from German newspaper Die Welt on charges of "propaganda in support of a terrorist organization" and "inciting the public to violence." 

Deniz Yücel, a dual citizen of Turkey and Germany, was initially detained by police on Feb. 14. 

Elderly woman dies of heart attack after police raid wrong house in Turkey's south

An elderly woman has died of a heart attack stemming from fear after the police raided a wrong address in order to apprehend a murder suspect in the southern province of Antalya. Hamide Yücel, 65, who had been suffering from a heart condition, had a heart attack after the police told him that his son Ali Yücel, 28, has been sought over a murder case, when in fact Yücel was innocent. 

Film to tackle distribution monopoly in Turkish cinema

In 2005, 27 million movie tickets were sold in Turkey. The ticket sales surpassed 60 million in 2015. Turkey takes second place after Russia as the fastest growing movie industry in Europe. Turkey is also the only country in Europe where national cinema takes more than half of the market share. While there were 29 Turkish movies produced in 2005, that number shot to 136 in 2015.

Turkish-German films in Nurnberg

The 20th Turkish-German Film Festival kicked off in Nurnberg's Tafenhalle Culture and Arts Center.

Nurnberg Mayor Ulrich Maly, Turkish Consul General to Nurnberg Asip Kaya as well as cinema critic Klaus Eder, actors Cem Y?lmaz, U?ur Yücel, ?ener ?en were among the guests of the opening ceremony.
