The Greek government dismissed on Wednesday a report in The New York Times newspaper that it was holding illegal migrants who cross the border from Turkey at a secret "black site" where they are denied access to lawyers and cannot file asylum claims.

Greece released a video clip on Wednesday it said showed Turkish riot police firing tear gas canisters at the Kastanies border crossing, where thousands of migrants are trying to cross into the European Union.

According to Hungarian police, two groups of migrants tried to enter the Hungarian territory illegally near the Rszke-Horgos 2 border crossing this morning at around 5.30.

Macedonian police and army have been setting up a barbed wire fence in the last two days around a camp in Tabanovce.

Around 1,300 migrants are stranded there.

About 1,000 migrants are stuck in Serbia at present, the acting head of the country's police force, Vladimir Rebic, has said on Tuesday, according to Tanjug.

Greece says Macedonia is no longer allowing migrants to enter the country on their way to Central and Western Europe, ABC news reports.

Skopje officials did not immediately comment, but Athens maintains the border has effectively been sealed off to migrants for several days.
