The national inflation rate in Greece amounted to 3.2% in March climbing from 2.9% in February, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported on Wednesday.

ELSTAT's data confirm the rising inflation picture shown by Eurostat's statistics, according to which European Union-harmonized inflation rose in Greece to 3.4% in March, from 3.1% in February.

A new economic reality has emerged in the Greek housing market amid the prolonged financial crisis, with a notable portion of the nation's residential inventory now under the ownership of institutional or foreign investors. This trend is underscored by statistical data, revealing an 11.3% decline in homeownership rates from 2005 to 2021.

The Overall Turnover Index in Industry rose 3.2% in January 2024 compared with the corresponding index of January 2023, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Turnover in Greece's businesses that provide accommodation showed an 11.9% growth year-on-year in January, amounting to 94,097,348 euros, compared to €84,061,799 in January 2023, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority.

This is likely the effect of the expansion of the Greek tourism season, as the country aspires to become a 12-month destination.

Inflation in Greece stood at 2.9% last month, down from 3.1% in January 2024, while the slowdown of food price growth was even greater, data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), released on Friday, showed.

Food inflation dropped to 6.7% in February (on an annual basis) from 8.3% in January 2024.

The unemployment rate in Greece dropped to 10.5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, down from 10.8% in the third quarter of the same year and 11.9% in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to the results of the Labor Force Survey for the fourth quarter of 2023, announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Thursday.

The export footprint of the majority of Greek businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones, remains low, despite the fact that compared to 2019, the last year before Covid-19, the number of businesses whose products are sold outside Greek borders has increased.
