Protests Emerge as Taxi Stands Disappear in Sofia: Ultimatum to Mayor
The taxi industry in Bulgaria is issuing an ultimatum to the local government due to recent changes in road organization, particularly the removal of taxi stands in Sofia. This dissatisfaction follows protests from residents in the city center, with taxi drivers feeling adversely affected by the elimination of many spaces designated for their vehicles.
Orders to remove illegal table seating in public places in Athens up 54%
More violations of the regulations on the placement on table seating in public places were recorded in the first quarter of the year in Athens, data from the Athens Municipality has shown.
From January to April, Municipal police found 1,246 cases violations of the regulations on table seating, an increase of 54% on the same period in 2023.
Municipal Police force getting a makeover
The Interior Ministry is moving ahead with changes to the Municipal Police force, deeming that the existing framework needs to be adapted to meet the needs of the country's cities and their residents. It is also planning to hire more than 1,200 new officers.

Ban on tables, chairs on central Panepistimiou Avenue
No new permits will be issued for the placement of table and chairs on central Panepistimiou Avenue while the existing ones will be revoked for the next two years, according to a decision on Monday by the Athens City Council.

Municipal police in the northern port city of Thessaloniki conducted an operation on Wednesday to remove electric scooters from several parts of the seafront which are not allowed to circulate, as part of the measures introduced to battle the coronavirus.
The city police collected 59 scooters belonging to a private rental company.
