'Make America McCarthyistic Again'
Donald Trump, the American businessman turned presidential hopeful, threw out another provocation the other day. He argued there must be a "total and complete shutdown" of Muslims entering the United States "until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." He, in other words, advanced a religion-based exclusion to normally one of freest countries in the world.

NATO emergency meeting: Russian jet violated Turkish airspace for 17 seconds (transcripts + vid)
The Turkish military downed the Russian Su-24 jet after it violated its air space for 17 seconds according to information that came to light at the emergency NATO meeting. In Brussels, NATO officials were concerned that Turkey did not show more restraint. Reuters reports:
Clinton unfazed by possible Biden White House run: Aide
A top Hillary Clinton staffer told CNN Sunday that the former first lady's campaign team is unfazed by news that Vice President Joe Biden is giving serious consideration to a White House bid.
"We'll let him make his decision," Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton's campaign spokeswoman, told CNN.
IMF picks White House adviser as chief economist
The International Monetary Fund plans to name White House economic adviser Maurice Obstfeld as its chief economist.
Obstfeld, who is on leave from the University of California, Berkeley, replaces the retiring Olivier Blanchard.
Obstfeld has written two influential textbooks on international economics, one with Nobel Prize winner and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.
