Leaders of three parties discuss situation in Vojvodina

NOVI SAD - Leaders of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) Nenad Canak, Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) Istvan Pastor and New Democratic Party (NDS) Boris Tadic agreed that changes to the constitutional and legal position of the Serbian province of Vojvodina are needed.

They discussed the political situation in Vojvodina in Novi Sad on Monday, and Canak told reporters that they considered the issues relating to the adoption of a law on the financing of the province, changes to the law on public property and problems in the functioning of the Vojvodina administration.

“We have talked about whether it would be possible to introduce some changes within the ruling coalition in the province that would help ensure the provincial administration's more efficient work or form an all-party government in Vojvodina,” Pastor specified.
Tadic said that the issue arises why the results of the provincial government are worse than they were in 2011, and underscored that something needs to be done in order to change that.

“We agree that the Serbian Constitution should be changed in the direction of regionalization and decentralization,” he said.

“In order to change the economic system, we need to change the election system in Serbia. We backed the LSV proposal about the introduction of the proportional election system in Vojvodina, but we think that it is necessary to work more on the personalization of the system,” Tadic noted.

The NDS leader signaled that the talks on the matter would be opened with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and other parties in the province.
