Celebrating New Year's Eve in Serbia

Belgrade starts celebrating early this year. Starting on December 29, the city hosts four days of concerts in front the National Assembly.

On December 29, the band Miligram kicks off the festivities, followed by performances on December 30 by the band Van Gogh and Serbian pop star Zeljko Joksimovic.

Belgrade visitors can greet the New Year with a concert by folk superstar Lepa Brena as well as a concert by actor Steven Seagal's Blues Band. Tropico is also set to play on New Year's Eve.

For those who still haven't partied hard enough, one of Serbia's most famous singers, Svetlana Ceca Raznatovi?, will perform on New Year's Day.

Goran Vesic, President of the board for organizing New Year's celebrations, said that the city managed to "organize a spectacular celebration and will bring more tourists than last year".

"Last year we attracted 16,000 people and the city, as well as the private sector, raked in ?17 million. Our aim is to prolong the stay of tourists and bring in more profits for hotels, restaurants and the city," Vesic told Serbian media.

January 14 is a major holiday in Belgrade and Serbia and marks the beginning of the Serbian Orthodox Church New Year according to the Julian calendar.  

Although authorities haven't yet published lineup or locations of the Serbian New Year celebrations, almost every club in the city will organize its own celebration.
Mikser House will host Nenad Mr. Swagger along with the band Atomsko skloniste. Ticket price is around ?9.

With a cover charge of only ?1, expect DJ Miss Millie's set at Club Peron to be crowded and intense.

Splav Jimmy will be home to folk music fans. Dejan Matic is performing and the ticket price will be ?15, although seat reservations range from ?10...
