Russian women win chess title, men’s competition still wide open
Čatež ob Savi – The Russian women’s team has already bagged the title at the European Team Chess Championship, whereas the men’s competition remains wide open as the teams enter the final round on Sunday.
In Saturday’s penultimate round Russia defeated Ukraine 3:1 in the women’s competition and won the title as the only team without a single lost match and with 16 points.

Čatež ob Savi – The Slovenian teams competing in the European Team Chess Championship got off to a mixed start to the competition on Friday, with the men’s team defeating Ireland and the women’s team surprisingly losing to Belgium.
The men’s first team, ranked 19th, defeated the much lower-ranked Ireland 3.5:0.5 as Jure Borišek was the only one to cede half a point.
