 In Western Bulgaria there will be some rain, which in the evening on the high fields and in the northwestern regions will begin to turn into snow.

A cold atmospheric front will pass through the country today. Daily temperatures will drop significantly and the maximum will be from 3 to 4 degrees in Northeastern Bulgaria to 11-12 degrees in the southern regions, announced the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).

Heavy snowfall and cold weather conditions disrupted traffic and paralyzed daily life in Istanbul on Feb. 17.

According to the Metropolitan Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), temperatures will rise to seasonal norms on Feb. 18.

"Snow thickness in the high and rural areas of the city reached up to 30 centimeters," said AKOM in a statement.

Greece is in a cold grip for the fourth day in a row. Temperatures dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius in the north of the country. On the islands, northerly winds were blowing, reaching velocity of up to 118 km/h.

A cold front swept across the country from Saturday, driving temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit) in northern Greece and causing rare snowfall in Athens after a period of unseasonably warm weather.

A cold weather front has hit Greece, sending temperatures plunging from the low 20s Celsius (around 70 Fahrenheit) on Friday to well below freezing on Monday, and seeing snowfall in central Athens.

Authorities appealed to the public to restrict their movements outside to the essential only, while the main highway leading north out of the capital was shut due to snowfall.

Cold weather front "Medea" is increasingly making its presence felt by expanding into southern Greece, meteorologists say.

In the northern central Macedonia region, snowfall continues but has abated, according to local authorities, but frost will settle in and make roads treacherous, meteorologists warn. Local authorities say traveling could be treacherous without snow chains.

As of this morning, temperatures in Greece are plummeting and strong winds are rising, the National Observatory in Athens reported a strong cyclone coming with freezing temperatures, snow, icy roads.

The weather will change sharply today.
