The Greek side were unable to capitalise on their free throws, registering an appalling 50%, while Russian star player Shved upped his game notably in the second half to lead his team to the semis.

Greece has advanced to the 2017 Eurobasket quarter finals after defeating Lithuania (77-64) in the final 16 knock out stage. Kostas Sloukas led the scoring with 21 points, while centre Giannis Bourousis also picked up his game grabbing 8 rebounds and scored crucial baskets, as did playmaker Nick Calathes who had 6 assists.

Greece defeat Iceland in Eurobasket opener (90-61)

Greece have opened their Group A matches for the 2017 Eurobasket championships in Helsinki, Finland with a comfortable 90-61 victory over Iceland. In the match played earlier in the first group Slovenia beat Poland 90-81. Greece are scheduled to face France on Saturday in their toughest match of group stage.

Kostas Missas Greece’s new national basketball team manager

Kostas Missas will be the next manager for the Greek men’s national basketball team. The 64-year-old manager was announced by the Greek Basketball Federation (EOK) on Tuesday. “Assuming the management of the national team is a special privilege and responsibility”, Mr. Missas stated after the official announcement was made.
