In a three-part musical celebration, orchestras and solo performers will join forces to put on an eclectic concert at the Herod Atticus Theater on Saturday, August 3. German composer Enjott Schneider will join Otto Sauter and the latter's trumpet ensemble Ten of the Best for the first performance.

The Athens State Orchestra, conducted by Stefanos Tsialis, accompanies solo violinist Maxim Vengerov for a performance of Johannes Brahms' Violin Concerto in D major, Opus 77. A prominent conductor and violinist, Vengerov has held several teaching positions in reputable musical academies across the globe.

Riccardo Muti returns to Athens after 11 years with "The Roads of Friendship," an annual musical pilgrimage curated by the Ravenna Festival since 1997 that has taken the internationally acclaimed conductor and an ensemble of Italian musicians to historic cities around the world, from Sarajevo, Beirut and Jerusalem to Cairo and Tehran.

The films of American filmmaker Steven Spielberg, whose stunning scores have received widespread acclaim, will be the subject of a tribute concert by the Athens State Orchestra on Monday, June 24. Conducted by Adrian Prabava, the orchestra will pay homage to Spielberg classics such as "Indiana Jones" and "Schindler's List," while clips of his movies will accompany the performance.

European Music Day will be extra special this year as the popular institution celebrates its 20th anniversary. Here in Greece, 48 towns, cities and other locations will be hosting more than 400 artists from different parts of the world - from full orchestras to small ensembles, solo artists and DJs - at 270 venues, from June 21 to 23.

The Vienna Symphony Orchestra joins forces with acclaimed violinist and conductor Leonidas Kavakos for a performance at the open-air Herod Atticus Theater on Saturday, June 22. Founded in 1900, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra has collaborated with celebrated maestros including Wilhelm Furtwangler, Herbert von Karajan, Georges Pretre and Vladimir Fedoseyev.

The Athens Festival has invited acclaimed Greek composer Eleni Karaindrou to present selections from her new album, "Tous des Oiseaux," at the Herod Atticus Theater on June 14.

British alternative rock band Tindersticks, which emerged in the early 1990s and soon gained a sizable following in Greece that has remained loyal to this day, will be performing in the Greek capital as part of the Athens Festival on July 13.

Following its first gig at the Herods Atticus Theater in 2003, British rock legend Jethro Tull returns to the Athens Festival on Saturday, June 15, to celebrate 50 years in the music business with their Greek fans. Led by the ever-creative Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull has influenced generations of rockers with its diverse playing style and elaborate arrangements.
