Istanbul to open tender for two new metro lines

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has announced plans for a tender for two new metro lines in September.

"A tender will be held for the subway lines between Ataköy-?kitelli on the European side and Dudullu-Bostanc? on the Asian side in September," Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topba? said in a statement released Aug. 12.

Turkey detains more suspected ISIL members

At least 13 suspected members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) were detained in operations across Turkey on Aug. 12.  

Police detained the suspects in coordinated dawn raids in the capital Ankara, Istanbul, the province of Hatay near the Syrian border, and the Central Anatolian province of K?r?kkale, Anadolu Agency reported.

Istanbul Photo Awards exhibit opens in ?zmir

An exhibition showcasing award-winning photographs from the recent Istanbul Photo Awards, organized by the state-run Anadolu Agency, opened at ?zmir?s Adnan Menderes Airport on Aug. 11.

The Istanbul Photo Awards is Turkey?s only news photograph contest held at an international level, receiving approximately 12,000 applications from 104 countries.

VIDEO: Tourist's car saved from falling into Bosphorus

Passersby have saved a tourist?s car from falling backwards into the Bosphorus in central Istanbul by sitting on the front of the car until the arrival of a lifting crane.
The tourists, who were visiting a museum in the Be?ikta? district on the European side of Istanbul, had parked their rental car near the Bosphorus but forgot to secure the handbrake before exiting the vehicle.
