Report: Turkish tourists cancelling Lesvos holiday due to … migrants

In the “strange but true” category, media reports from the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos (Lesbos) have nearly three-fourths of the Turkish tourists that booked holidays on the island for a coming Muslim holiday cancelling due to the … migrant crisis.

Greece’s state-run news agency quotes a noted travel agent on the island, who specializes in Turkish tourists, as stating that:

Turkey Conducts Airstrikes on 17 Suspected PKK Targets

Turkey conducted a new series of airstrikes overnight, hitting 17 suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets in the southeastern part of the country on the border with Iran and Iraq.

According to a statement of the Turkish General Staff, the airstrikes were aimed at "terrorist targets" around the Buzul mountain and Ikiyaka region in Hakkari province.

Bodies recovered at site of highway construction accident in Turkey

Rescuers have pulled four bodies of construction workers from under scaffolding that collapsed on Aug. 4 in western Turkey.

The body of the fourth worker was found and pulled out early on Aug. 5. 

Two bodies were retrieved later on Aug. 4 night following an earlier discovery.

Turkey Detains Nearly 300 Alleged IS, PKK Members in Police Raids

Turkish authorities detained nearly 300 people as police launched large-scale raids to arrest suspected members of Islamic State (IS), the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and other militant groups on Friday.

The raids became necessary after a wave of deadly violence has recently gripped the country, claiming the lives of several security officers.

Strike at Turkey's largest petrochemical company ends

A strike at the ?zmir facility of Turkey?s petrochemical giant, Petkim, came to an end late June 1 after workers agreed to a deal with the company?s management.

On May 28, nearly 1,000 workers of the petrochemical producer in the province of Izmir, in western Turkey, went on strike, occupying the facility for better work conditions.
