Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša and several NGOs have called each for their own protest in support of Ukraine. While the rally announced by Janša is to be held in Ljubljana on Wednesday, NGOs are calling for a protest for peace on Tuesday.

Ljubljana – The Social Democrats (SD) endorsed their manifesto for the 24 April election on Saturday as their leader Tanja Fajon offered the opposition party as a safe and reliable choice between the dangers of the incumbent government on the one hand and the unpredictability of new experiments on the other.

Ljubljana – Police conducted house searches yesterday at addresses of seven people suspected of distributing child sexual abuse material online. The pictures and videos seized show foreign children aged three to 13 years, police told reporters on Tuesday.

Ljubljana – The parliamentary commission investigating suspicion of political interference in the work of police interviewed Interior Ministry State Secretary Franc Kangler on Friday. Kangler denied during a four-hour session allegations about his unwarranted interfering in either the work of police or staffing decisions.

Maribor – A pop song without which Slovenians can hardly imagine a New Year’s Eve is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark the anniversary, a museum in Maribor honoured its singer and citizen Alfi Nipič with an exhibition which traces his 60-year career while he marked the anniversary in hospital ill with Covid-19.

Ljubljana – The parliamentary Health Committee rejected amendments to the pharmacy act on Friday evening after the National Council vetoed the changes in late October. The bill was thrown out in an 8:7 vote.

In the repeated procedure, the amendments would need an absolute majority to be adopted, so ten MPs would have to support them at the committee level.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly voted 47 in favour and 37 against on Wednesday to endorse a bill amending the pharmacy practice act which lifts the ban on vertical integration of pharmacies and drug wholesalers in cases when the wholesaler is incorporated by a public pharmacy or municipality.

Dubai – After focusing on business in the weeks after the official opening, activities at Slovenian pavilion at the Expo Dubai will revolve around space and space technology in the second half of October.

As of Sunday, Slovenian companies will be featured under the Universe topic in the pavilion, while a delegation of space-tech companies will visit the Expo on Wednesday.

Maribor – Lumar IG, a Maribor-based maker of prefabricated energy-efficient homes, increased its revenues by more than 6% to over EUR 19 million last year despite the epidemic and challenging conditions. The company ended the year with a net profit of EUR 1.4 million, almost double the figure of 2019.

Ljubljana – Amid a prospering situation in the labour market and favourable unemployment trends, employers have been recording the largest structural imbalances between the registered jobless and companies’ needs since the 2008 financial crisis. Businesses highlight that the paperwork to hire foreign workers takes too long.
