Bulgaria Minister Resigns after Arrest Over Water Crisis

Bulgaria's Minister of Environment and Water, Neno Dimov, has resigned and been charged with deliberate mismanagement of a water crisis. He faces further grilling over a scandal concerning transports of scrap from Italy.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov accepted his resignation on Friday. Dimov stepped down after being arrested on Thursday.

Highly Polluted Air in Ruse, Vidin, Plovdiv and 6 Other Cities in Bulgaria

Dangerously high pollution was registered this morning in Vidin, Ruse and Plovdiv, according to a NOVA report on the European Commission's Air Quality Index portal.

In Vidin, measuring instruments of the Environmental Executive Agency reported a fine particulate matter concentration of 125 micrograms per cubic meter, which is more than 2 times the norm.

A warning for extreme fire danger conditions has been issued for some areas in Dobrich region for 2 July, according to the website of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).
