German football legend Beckenbauer dies aged 78

Germany united to mourn the death of Franz Beckenbauer on Monday, with figures from across the sporting and political landscape bidding farewell to the 'Kaiser'.

Beckenbauer, a World Cup winner as both a player and a coach, died on Sunday at the age of 78, with news of his death not announced until Monday evening.

Tim Farčnik elected to biathlon federation executive board

Salzburg – Slovenia’s Tim Farčnik has been appointed to the executive board of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) at their 15th Ordinary Congress in Salzburg, Austria, the Slovenian Ski Association (SZS) said.

Farčnik will join five other members of the executive board in the 2022-2026 period.

Plan to transfer thousands of migrants in works

Greek authorities are planning the transfer of thousands of migrants from overcrowded facilities on the Aegean islands to centers on the mainland, sources said on Wednesday as Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras held talks with visiting European Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos about a new burgeoning refugee crisis.
