Mergers and acquisitions picked up in Greece last year as an improving investment climate led to increased deals, according to figures from business consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers on Tuesday.

National Bank (NBG), Greece's second largest lender, has opened the books on a 10-year Tier II subordinated bond, with initial price estimates around 9 percent, IFR, Refinitiv's capital markets news service, said on Thursday.

After a volatile trading session in Athens on Friday, the main index of the Greek stock market closed up slightly while the banks index ended in the red. Stocks were split between winners and losers as the market failed to sustain the growth momentum seen earlier in the week.

The benchmark of the Greek bourse fell back into negative territory on Thursday as the banks index took a 2.90 percent dive.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 762.49 points, shedding 0.60 percent from Wednesday's 767.07 points. The large-cap FTSE-26 index contracted 0.62 percent to close at 2,003.61 points.
