The US State Department's new 2022 annual human rights report says the Bulgarian government's efforts to address corruption and human rights abuses are "insufficient."

The report said steps had been taken to investigate officials accused of human rights abuses and corruption, but there was a problem of impunity.

Sofia City Court Halts Hearing in Ataka Leader Case

Sofia City Court has halted the hearing of the case against nationalist leader Volen Siderov who is accused of hooliganism and infliction of minor injuries to a police officer.

The hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, however, the immunity that Siderov was granted after he was appointed as an MP in the 43rd National Assembly has prevented the beginning of the trial.

Man Dies After Being Hit by Train Near Bulgaria's Svoge

A man has been hit by a fast train near Bulgaria's town of Svoge, Saturday.

According to reports by the Interior Ministry, the man has been killed by the passenger train running from Lom to Sofia. According to the initial information, he was sitting on the tracks and did not respond to the audible warning signals.

Four Bulgarians Busted in Greece for Fake Money Distribution

The police in the Greek city of Thessaloniki nabbed four Bulgarians in an attempt to put EUR 6 thousand fake banknotes in circulation.

One of the Bulgarians has been under investigation for being part of a counterfeit money trade channel which has led the police to the other three persons involved in the scheme.
