The adoption of the Support and Procurement Organization, NSPO, agreement with NATO has sparked a stormy debate in the country about whether it is undermining Serbia's proclaimed doctrine of military neutrality and bringing it closer to NATO.

Former UN secretary-general Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who led the world body during one of its most difficult periods, with failed missions in Rwanda and Bosnia, died Feb. 16 in Cairo. He was 93.

Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted its application for European Union (EU) membership on Monday.

The application comes after months of hard work by the leadership of the Balkan country and only twenty years after the destructive Yugoslav wars.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ruling parties said the country’s EU application was a positive step for the future, but Bosnian Serb political leaders didn’t share their enthusiasm.

Following Bosnia's decision to apply for EU membership, a group of intellectuals and activists have called on the politicians not to misuse this historic step to advance their own careers.

Bosnia-Herzegovina has submitted its application to be granted the status of candidate for EU membership.

Bosnian Presidency Chairman Dragan Covic filed the application in Brussels on Monday.

Bosnia on Feb. 15 formally submitted an application to join the EU, hoping to catch up with its Balkan neighbors after years lost following the bloody break-up of Yugoslavia.

"This is an important day for all us," the Croat member of Bosnia's tripartite presidency, Dragan Covic, said on Monday after presenting the application for EU membership.
