Second cheetah brought from Africa dies

A cheetah brought from South Africa to India has died, wildlife officials said, the second such death within a month in a country where the big spotted cat was declared extinct seven decades ago.

So far, 12 cheetahs from South Africa and eight from Namibia have been brought to India after its top court ruled in 2020 that the species should be reintroduced.

Iniochos 2023 air force drill starting on Monday

The Hellenic Air Force (HAF) begins its annual medium-scale exercise Iniochos out of the Andravida Air Base in the Northwest Peloponnese on Monday. 

The multinational exercise runs until May 4 and will include the participation of the air forces of Cyprus, France, India, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Spain and the United States.

India's Central Bank held interest rates yesterday for the first time in nearly a year because of "unprecedented uncertainty" in global markets but said it was committed to taming persistent inflation.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) left the benchmark repurchase rate at 6.50 percent after hikes at all six of its prior meetings since May 2022.
