Bulgarian Appointed as Head of UN Centre for Central Asia
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed on Tuesday the Bulgarian Petko Draganov as his Special Representative and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Draganov succeeds the Slovak Miroslav Jenca, who was recently appointed as Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, the site of UNRCCA informs.
Lesotho PM says army attempted coup, military denies
Lesotho's Prime Minister Thomas Thabane on Aug. 30 accused his country's army of attempting a coup against him, but the military denied seeking to oust him and said its soldiers had returned to barracks.
Greece drops further in press freedom rankings, according to NGO
Greece lost five points in terms of its press freedom last year and now ranks 92nd out of 197 countries, according to an annual report by Freedom House, published on Thursday.
The US-based non-governmental organization rated the media in Greece as being partly free. It placed Greece below Mozambique but just above Lesotho in terms of the freedom of reporting.
