Can Merkel convince Greek Cyprus to lift its EU veto on Turkey?
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has just had her third visit to Turkey in the last four months. One was for the G-20 Summit last November, but the Oct. 18 visit and the visit yesterday (Feb. 8) focused on the same issue: Decreasing the Syrian refugee burden on the EU, on Germany in particular, and convincing the Turkish government to keep as many refugees as possible in Turkey.
Thirteen years later
The famous March 1, 2003, motion debate in a "closed session" of parliament resulted in "153 pages of minutes, four voice tapes, five pages of stenographer notes and 245 pages of voting tabulations regarding the open voting?"
The session on Saturday, March 1, 2003, started at 2 p.m. and was headed by Parliament Speaker Bülent Ar?nç.

How can begging be stopped by fining those who give money?
Not every poor person becomes a beggar but almost every beggar is poor. Press reports that appear once in a while profiling "The rich beggar" should not mislead you; they are exceptions. Nor should you assume that "Oliver Twist gangs" exist either; they do, but only a few.

Russia Detains Suspected IS Cell Plotting Attacks in Moscow, St. Petersburg
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained seven suspected members of the Islamic State group who allegedly planned terrorist attacks in Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Urals.
The group, arrested in Yekaterinburg, comprised citizens of Russia and countries of Central Asia and was led by one of its members who had arrived from Turkey, FSB said in a statement on Monday.

Turkey seizes 2.3 tons of meat smuggled from Greece
Turkish police seized 2.3 tons of red meat illegally brought to the country from Greece in a lorry stopped at the northwestern province of Edirne.
Turkish gendarmerie forces stopped two trucks in Edirne on Feb. 8, a Turkish city bordering Greece.
