Journalists Recall Events from Kosovo's Independence in Pristina, Belgrade

When Kosovo's then Prime Minister Hashim Thaci read out Kosovo's declaration of independence in parliament on February 17, 2008, days of celebrations commenced in Pristina, but in neighbouring Serbia, mass protests broke out and quickly turned violent, with the US embassy ransacked and set on fire.

Four accused of torching US embassy receive suspended sentences

The Belgrade Higher Court has handed down suspended sentences of five and six months to four indictees charged with setting fire to the US embassy in 2008.

By the court's decision, three of those accused have been acquitted.

The sentences will not be enforced if the convicted persons refrain from committing new criminal offenses within two years.

Powerful Earthquake in the Region of North Iraq, Casualties and Devastation

A powerful earthquake in the region of the Iran-Iraq border in the early hours of Sunday to Monday has claimed the lives of nearly 130 people, thousands are wounded. The epicenter is in Sulaimanian province, in the region of northeastern Iraq to the border with Iran.
