BELGRADE - Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic sent on Friday Republic Day greetings to Republika Srpska (RS), the Serb entity in Bosnia-Herzegovina, with wishes for even better relations between Serbia and RS.

Vucic sent the greetings to RS President Milorad Dodik and Prime Minister Zeljka Cvijanovic.

BELGRADE - Turkey's Ambassador to Serbia Mehmet Kemal Bozay has hosted a reception to mark the Turkish national holiday, Republic Day, and said that Serbian-Turkish ties have deep roots and a promising, solid future.

The ties are developing in all areas and are beneficial to not only Serbia and Turkey, but the broader region as well, he said at late Wednesday's ceremony.

A coal mine collapse in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman has cast a shadow on the Oct. 29 Republic Day celebrations in the Turkish capital Ankara, as everyone desperately hopes for good news from the coal mine where 18 miners remain trapped.

As Turkey is embroiled in troubles emanating from the civil war in neighbor Syria on the 91st anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan used the occasion to issue a message in support of soldiers defending the 700-year-old tomb of Suleyman Shah, a Turkish enclave in northern Syria.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced the cancelation of his Republic Day reception amid plans to travel to the southern town of Ermenek in Karaman where 18 miners remain trapped after a mine flooded on Oct. 28.

The country is marking the 91st anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey on Oct. 29 with celebrations at the newly built "Ak Saray," rather than the traditional Çankaya Palace.

The change in the venue this year is upon President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s preference to host the reception at the newly built presidential premises.

The real-life character from the controversial movie “Midnight Express,” which was accused of misrepresenting Turkey to the world in 1978, will raise the Turkish flag on New York’s Wall Street, as part of Turkey's Oct. 29 Republic Day celebrations in the city.
