Alliance of Independent Social Democrats

The government of Republika Srpska, one of two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said it would "end cooperation" with US and UK embassies in the country from Thursday, in reaction to recently imposed US sanctions on the director of the Administration for Geodetic and Property Affairs of Republika Srpska, RUGIPP, Dragan Stankovic.

The freedom of movement agreement between the six Western Balkans countries, signed on November 3, 2022, as part of the Berlin Process has hit a wall in Bosnia thanks to the Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik. 

The formation of a government in the Bosniak and Croat-dominated Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the bigger of Bosnia's two entities, remains on hold since the October 2022 election, as the governing coalition that promised its quick formation falls apart. 

Bosnia and Herzegovina held its ninth general elections on 2 October 2022.

Bosnia and Herzegovina completed the formation of a state-level government on Wednesday, several months after the October 2022 general elections, with the approval of the new Council of Ministers led by Borjana Kristo, vice-president of the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, the main Bosnian Croat party. 

Milorad Dodik, the Serb member of Bosnia's tripartite presidency and head of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, the ruling party in Republika Srpska, has come under criticism after suggesting that religious officials' salaries should be paid by the entity.

That is a problem for a far bigger set of actors in Bosnia than the reactionary and secessionist Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD, of Milorad Dodik, the Serb member of the state presidency.

Facebook has taken down a video about former Bosnian Serb military chief Ratko Mladic entitled 'The General Has Become a Legend Today', which was posted on the official page of the ruling party in Bosnia's Serb-dominated Republika Srpska entity, the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD.

Denis Becirovic, the other lawmaker behind the proposal, said that because deputies from the main Bosnian Serb and Croat parties, the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD, and the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, did not back the changes, it is now time for Inzko to step in and impose a solution.

A shrine has reappeared in Banja Luka's central Krajina Square - candles, flowers and a wooden carving of a clenched fist next to photographs of a 21 year-old student who died three years ago this month in this northern Bosnian town.
