Bulgaria's Central Bank Urges Parliament to Set Up KTB Committee

The Bulgarian National Bank has called on the newly-convened Parliament to create a temporary committee on the crisis at Corporate Commercial Bank (Corpbank or KTB).

In a statement issued minutes after the new Bulgarian Parliament appointed its speaker on Monday, the financial institution argued the committee should be composed of representatives of all parties in Parliament.

PES Leader Stanishev Wants his MEP’s Immunity Lifted ASAP

Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Party of European Socialists (PES), has said he will insist that he be stripped of his immunity from prosecution on the basis of his status as an MEP as soon as possible.

Stanishev stated his opinion on Facebook in response to an earlier announcement by Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov that he would demand his MEP's immunity.

President Rosen Plevneliev has dissolved the Bulgarian Parliament with a decree, his press office said on Wednesday.

The document has pointed October five as the date on which early general elections are due to be held.

A second decree has been issued to appoint Georgi Bliznashki as caretaker Prime Minister.

An asteroid is to be named after the son of Tsetska Tsacheva, former Bulgarian Parliament Speaker.

Tsacheva's son, Rumen Dangovski, won second place in the world's largest international pre-university science competition, Intel's International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), according to reports of Standard daily.
