Israeli couple released from detention in Turkey

An Israeli couple has been released by Turkey after being detained on suspicion of espionage, according to a joint statement by Israel's prime minister and foreign minister on Nov. 17. 

Mordi and Natalie Oknin are on their way to Israel, according to the statement, which also expressed gratitude to the president and government of Turkey.

Envoys who backed Kavala to be made ’non grata’: President Erdoğan

The Turkish president said on Oct. 23 that he instructed the foreign minister to declare 10 ambassadors persona non grata over their statement on the ongoing case of businessman Osman Kavala.

The envoys who called for Kavala's release "should either understand Turkey or they should leave," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told a ceremony in the central Eskişehir province.

Family torturing woman seeking divorce given jail terms

An Istanbul court ruled jail terms between 5 to 16 years for family members that tortured a woman who wanted to divorce her husband on June 7.

According to the lawsuit, a woman called police at midnight on May 11, saying "My daughter is kidnapped."

The police found out that Ceylan Yıldırım, a mother of two children, was kidnapped by her husband, Ersin Yıldırım, in a minivan.

Key figure in 1996 journo murder released on condition of judicial control

Following a statement regarding the 1996 murder of Kutlu Adalı, a prominent Turkish Cypriot journalist, Atilla Peker has been released with a judicial control measure on the charge of "helping to premeditated murder" by an Istanbul court to which he was referred to.
