Kavala hospital

An increase in violent attacks on staff at the country's hospitals has prompted the Panhellenic Medical Association to launch a public awareness campaign to curb the phenomenon.

Two fresh cases of violence against hospital workers were reported on Tuesday by the national union of hospital workers (POEDIN).

The first incident took place on Monday at the Aghia Sophia Children's Hospital in Thessaloniki, when the father of a young child that had gone for an examination attacked a worker.

A 35-year-old woman who gave birth by C-section on Thursday at a hospital in Kavala, northern Greece, died the following day after suffering a heart attack following her transfer to another hospital in Xanthi.
