State of Emergency Declared in Bulgaria's Bansko Municipality

A state of emergency has been declared by the mayor of Bansko Municipality.

The Glazne river has overflooded due to the heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Two bridges over the river have been washed away. The ski road has been flooded. Hundreds of volunteers and employees are fighting the flood. 

Bulgaria Working to Host German Automaker's Assembly Plant

Bulgaria is negotiating the opening of an automotive assembly plant on its soil, the investment promotion agency's head has said.

"We are in talks with a major German company [to convince it] to begin assembling cars in Bulgaria," Stamen Yanev, chair of InvestBulgaria Agency, has told daily 24 Chasa in an interview.

Bulgarian Parliamentary Committee Moves to Make Voting Compulsory

The Bulgarian legal affairs parliamentary committee adopted at third extraordinary sitting on Tuesday amendments to the Electoral Code which foresee the introduction of compulsory voting.

According to the proposed amendments, voting will become a duty of citizens, with those voting eligible to rewards, while those not casting their ballot will be subject to penalties.
