Wintry weather closes mountain roads in Athens, Evia and Viotia, keeps ferries at port
Residents around Athens' mounts Parnitha and Penteli woke up on Tuesday morning to a blanket of snow, which has prompted authorities to close streets and avenues like Dionysou, Fylis and Parnithas leading to and from the mountains until they are clear and safe for driving.
Snowfall closes road on Attica’s Mount Parnitha
Heavy snowfall and ice prompted traffic police to close off a section of the road leading up to Mount Parnitha, north of Athens, on Tuesday afternoon.
Cars traveling on Parnitha Avenue will only be allowed as far as the cable car station, authorities said.

Wintry weather coming in many parts of Greece
A double cold spell is just around the corner, with storms, snowfall, gusty winds and a drop in temperature across most of the country, according to the national weather service, EMY.
In particular, the first wave is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, while the second will make its appearance on Friday and Saturday and is expected to be more severe.

50 Cent cancels Phoenix concert due to extreme heat
Sweltering heat in Phoenix that has routinely broken records this summer led to yet another canceled concert, with rapper 50 Cent calling the triple-digit temperatures "dangerous."
Rapper 50 Cent said that his scheduled show on Aug. 29 night at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheater, an outdoor venue in west Phoenix, was postponed because of the sweltering weather.

Greece was Saturday facing its hottest July weekend in 50 years, with temperatures forecast to soar above 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit), while a record-breaking heat wave stretching across the southern United States was expected to expand in the coming days.
Total collapse: More than 1,600 flights canceled
The most flights were canceled in New Jersey, where about 30 percent of all scheduled flights were delayed, and passengers who managed to land waited for their luggage for more than two hours, while many passengers lost their luggage, the New York Post reports.
331 flights were canceled at JFK airport, and 281 at La Guardia.
