"The people here are gathering because they want to show that they are united in grief and fear, but also because they are asking for accountability of the people who are running the state," Jelena Jerinic, an MP from the opposition Green-Left Coalition in parliament, told BIRN at the protest.

Dutch MPs rejected a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Mark Rutte, after the resignation of Foreign Minister Halbe Zeister. 101 MPs opposed the vote of mistrust, and only 43 MPs supported it. It was brought by Gert Wilders, the leader of the Dutch right-wing Party of Freedom.

Austrian President Alexander van der Belen handed over a mandate to form a new government to the leader of the conservative Austrian People's Party Sebastian Kurtz, reports TASS. 

The event is held in the Hofburg Palace.

"Based on the election results, I give you the right to form a government as the party leader who won the majority of the votes," the head of state said.

In March, Geert Wilders and his Party of Freedom could become the second strongest political force in the Dutch parliament.

But his supporters are nearly invisible - even in his home province of Limburg.
