8 Illegal Afghan Citizens Were Detained on Trakia Highway

8 Afghan citizens have been detained at ''Trayanovi Vrata'' on ''Trakia'' highway, Mladen Marinov, Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, announced on bTV.

Foreigners were without identity cards. Two Bulgarians were also arrested, who helped them with logistics and transportation.

It is supposed that the Afghans have entered our country across the border with Turkey.

Bulgaria continues to return to Turkey asylum seekers. For the past two years, no Turkish citizen who has applied for a refugee or humanitarian status in our country has received it, bTV writes.

Since the beginning of the year, 37 Turkish citizens have been detained in their attempt to leave their homeland.

Number of Arrests for Illegal Migration in Bulgaria in the 1st Half of 2017 - 80% Lower Compared to the Same Period in 2016

The number of arrests for illegal migration in Bulgaria in the first half of 2017 was 80 per cent lower than in the first six months of 2016, going by Interior Ministry figures, quoted by the Independent Balkan News Agency. 

Since the beginning of 2017, a total of 1461 people were arrested for illegal migration by June 30. By the end of June 2016, the number had added up to 7134.

Number of Illegal Immigrants Entering Bulgaria Via Greece Increases

The number of illegal immigrants entering Bulgaria through the border with Greece, continues to rise, Interior Ministry sources tell Dnevnik.bg.

The information was confirmed by the Refugee Agency.

According to its data, the number of persons, apprehended at the border with Greece was 291 since the beginning of the year. For comparison, in 2013 the number was 31.

It is believed that in it are involved Bulgarian border police officers and that the fence at the Bulgarian-Turkish border, which cost millions and was completed only recently, is totally inefficient.

Number of Asylum Seekers from Afghanistan Increased 4 Times – Bulgaria’s Refugee Agency

The number of asylum seekers from Afghanistan has increased more than four times in the last year, Bulgaria's State Agency for Refugees told Dnevnik.bg.

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 1397 Afghans have been accommodated in the Agency's centers, while their number in 2013 was 310.
