President of the Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu pleaded for the defence and strengthening of cohesion at the level of the entire European Union, and underscored the European Parliament's (EP) role in the cooperation at the level of the EU and its institutions.

France has worked very closely and trustfully with the Romanian authorities during the preparations for the takeover of the EU Presidency, and holding the helm of the Council of the European Union means being at the center of Europeans' attention, French European Affairs Minister Nathalie Loiseau said in an interview with AGERPRES.

The President of the Senate, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, considers that the semester of the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the European Union is an important occasion for EU members to learn more about Romania.

The National Liberal Party (PNL) urges the Government to finalize the draft budget for this year and submit it in Parliament until 14 January, Liberals' Chairman Ludovic Orban said on Tuesday.

The priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the regional cooperation and the economic interconnection projects were among the topics tackled by Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu during his meeting on Wednesday in Bucharest with representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the National Assemblies of Bulgaria and Serbia.
