Greece's largest carrier Aegean Airlines said on Wednesday passenger traffic grew 5 percent in the first quarter, with load factors improving to historically high levels for the winter season.

The company, a member of the Star Alliance airline group, said it flew a total of 2.1 million passengers on domestic and foreign routes, together with its subsidiary Olympic Air.

Aegean Airlines' full-year 2016 net profit fell 53 percent, hurt by a weak second quarter and an increase in value-added tax, Greece's largest carrier said on Thursday.

Aegean reported net earnings of 32.2 million euros ($34.76 million) last year versus a net profit of 68.4 million in 2015. Sales grew 4 percent to 1.02 billion euros.

Turkey's flagship carrier, Turkish Airlines, has announced plans to begin operating flights to Bogota and Panama City beginning May 4.        

Turkish Airlines (THY) are calling on international investors to "Invest in Turkey" in a logo on the fuselage of an Airbus-330.

The promotional aircraft is to fly to a number of destinations to promote Turkey across the world, THY said on Nov. 17.

AEGEAN, a member of the Star Alliance family won the “Best Regional Airline in Europe for 2015″ award during the Skytrax World Airline Awards in Paris. At the same time, it also won second place in the “World Regional Airline” category.

Turkish Airlines (THY), Turkey's national flag-carrier, will begin direct flights to Miami on Oct. 25, the company announced on May 13.

The move makes Miami the company's 12th destination in the Americas, on top of existing services to Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston, Montreal and San Francisco.
