Turkey's annual inflation hits 9.2 percent in first month of 2017

Turkey's annual inflation hit 9.2 percent in January from the previous month's 8.53 percent, making it the highest inflation rate in a year amid a decline in the Turkish Lira and a rise in food prices. 

The consumer price index rose by 2.46 percent in January, according to data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) on Feb. 3. 

Turkey's foreign trade deficit down around 12 pct in 2016

Turkey's foreign trade deficit declined to $56 billion last year amid low oil prices and a slowdown in economic activity.        

The country's foreign trade deficit in 2016 decreased by 11.7 percent from previous year's $63.3 billion total, provisional data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) showed on Jan. 31.  

Turkey's population hits 79.81 million people, increasing over one million

Turkey's population saw an increase of over one million compared to last year, reaching 79,814,871 people, the Turkish Statistics Institute announced on Jan. 31.

According to 2016 results from the records of Address Based Population Registration System, males made up 50.2 percent of the total population and females made up 49.8 percent.

Turkey's economic confidence slips around 4 pct in January

Turkey's economic confidence regressed to 85.7 in January with a 3.9 percent decrease compared to the previous month, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute showed on Jan. 30. 

The decrease in the economic confidence index mainly stemmed from the decline in services, real sector, construction and retail trade confidence indices. 

Property sales stabilized in 2016 in Turkey amid sharp fall in foreign interest

House sales in Turkey increased in a modest trend by 4 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year reaching 1.3 million, although sales to foreigners dropped sharply, according to a fresh data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK).

Sales to foreigners declined by 20.3 percent compared to the previous year, dropping to 18,189.
