Serbian Prosecutors Urge Probe of Alleged Graft Link to Minister

The Prosecutor's Office for Organised Crime told BIRN on Thursday that it has asked the Interior Ministry's Service for the Fight against Organised Crime to probe allegations that a company connected to Defence Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic's father bought weapons at preferential prices from the state arms manufacturer Krusik.
Serbian Security Agency Out of Control, Ombudsman
In his 2015 report submitted to Serbia's parliament on Wednesday, Ombudsman Jankovic said the state of human rights in Serbia was far from satisfactory.
In the section on the police and secret services, Jankovic said the Military Security Agency, VBA, had actively sought information about the activities of various political parties and movements.

Serbian Leaders Weigh Call to Axe Security Chiefs
Serbian leaders on Tuesday did not respond to calls to dismiss Bratislav Gasic, Defence Minister, and Petar Cvetkovic, head of the Military Security Agency, VBA, as Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic advised.

Serbian Ombudsman Complains of Threats
Sasa Jankovic, Serbia's ombudsman, told TV N1 that he does not feel safe because of the threats and allegations he has received since filing charges against two military policemen.
"Here critics are considers traitors," Jankovic told N1 on Tuesday evening.
