A total of 2,839 soldiers have been detained over the charges of coup attempt, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said July 16 in a press briefing. 

There are high-ranking officers among the detained.

Broadcaster CNNTürk said four of them were generals and 29 of them were colonels.

Athens backs the "democratically elected government" in Turkey, government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili said early Saturday following the attempted military coup in the neighboring country.

Gerovasili added that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will call Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Saturday.

All three opposition parties in parliament have announced their stance against the military coup attempt starting from late July 15.

The title might seem complicated, but it is the diplomatic path for the times ahead.

Turkey flew its flags at half-mast on July 15 in a show of solidarity with France after the deadly Nice attack, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has announced.

"We are flying our flags half-mast today [July 15] for solidarity with France," Yıldırım told reporters in the capital Ankara.

Turkey has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that killed at least 84 people in Nice during the French National Day celebrations, offering solidarity with France and other nations in the fight against global terrorism. 

The rationale provided by German deputies, including those of Turkish origin, for supporting the non-binding parliamentary resolution in the Bundestag that refers to the mass killings of Armenians in 1915 as "genocide," is that this "will contribute to healing the wound between Turks and Armenians," and "will also help normalize ties between Turkey and Armenia."

Turkey has called on the Czech Republic, Sweden, Germany and France to rethink decisions to permit Syria's Democratic Union Party (PYD) to open bureaus on their soil, claiming such a move could encourage militants to target Turkey and Turkish people.
