Romania's ex-president Traian Basescu on Wednesday said the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, PICCJ, had accused him of money laundering.

"I have been officially informed by PICCJ that I am suspected of money laundering? related to the purchase of a land plot and a house in 2000 and 2002," he wrote on Facebook.

Bulgaria holds a day of national mourning for late Bulgarian President Zhelyu Zhelev.

Zhelev, a dissident who served as Bulgaria's first democratically elected president (1990-1997) after the fall of communism, passed away on Friday at the age of 79.

Bulgarian national flags at all state institutions will be flown at half-mast.

Former president Emil Constantinescu thanked all the representatives of resistance and fight against communism, in the opening of an international conference celebrating 25 years since the falling of communism at the Parliament Palace on Thursday.
