Orthodox Christians mark Christmas Eve by traditionally lighting a Christmas tree in front of the Church of St. Sava next to the Temple of the same name in Belgrade.
In many places in Serbia, Christmas Eve is celebrated as tradition prescribes.
The faithful gathered in their temples, and after the liturgy they attended the fireworks display.

Ljubljana – Actress Milena Zupančič, one of the biggest stars of Slovenian and before that Yugoslav cinema and theatre, is the recipient of this year’s Badjura Award for lifetime achievements in film.

Portorož – This year’s Vesna Award for best feature film went to Prasica, Slabšalni Izraz za Žensko (Bitch, a Derogatory Term for a Woman), a debut by Tijana Zinajić, as the Festival of Slovenian Film wrapped up in the coastal town of Portorož on Sunday evening with the conferring of what are considered Slovenian Oscars.

Portorož – The 24th Festival of Slovenian Film will open in the coastal town of Portorož on Tuesday with the screening of Inventura, a film by Darko Sink. Until Sunday, a total of 54 films will compete for the festival’s awards.

Ljubljana – The recipient of this year’s Badjura Award, given out for lifetime achievements in film since 1995, is the innovator and film sound engineer Emilija Soklič, one of the first Slovenian professional female film industry workers. She will receive the award at the opening of the 24th Slovenian Film Festival on 12 October.
