Haradinaj told TV Klan Kosova that the ambassador "violated the diplomatic code when he pressured members of the Kosovo Assembly not to vote in favor of abolishing the special court."

The U.S. ambassador to Kosovo, Greg Delawie, has warned the country's politicians that they will bear "specific and harsh consequences" should their efforts to abolish a new war crimes court succeed.

The United States and European Union say they oppose any action by Kosovo's leadership to press for an end to a war crimes court linked to its 1998-99 independence struggle, calling it a "terrible idea" that will lead to the country's isolation.

U.S. Ambassador Greg Delawie on December 22 said such a move would have "extraordinarily negative implications" for Kosovo.

In today's continuation of the first parliamentary session, Kosovo's MPs will try and overcome political differences and elect the new speaker of Parliament. This will allow them to elect the new government, reported the Independent Balkan News Agency. 

Kosovo's government has postponed sending the controversial agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro to parliament for a vote until Wednesday.

PRISTINA - US Ambassador to Pristina Greg Delawie has urged Pristina institutions to, at this time, suspend the initiative to establish a Kosovo army, warning Kosovo officials of "potential consequences" of carrying on with the process.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci told Kosovo's Public Broadcaster, RTK, on Friday that he will quit if the country does not form its own regular army.

Thaci said he did not "want to lead a country that does not vote in favour of the establishment of its own army.

"If this assembly does not vote in favour [of the army bill], I will immediately resign from my position.

BELGRADE - US Ambassador to Kosovo Greg Delawie said on Sunday in Pristina that "Kosovo's security forces will become an army, since it is necessary that Kosovo has its own defensive capabilities".

Delawie said that NATO forces will not withdraw until Kosovo has ability to defend itself, reported RTK2.

Kosovo is heading towards the danger point, the US ambassador said, as the ongoing political deadlock shows no signs of a possible solution.

"Kosovo at this point stands at the brink, progress is possible but it is not assured," ambassador Greg Delawie told BIRN.
