ECHR elects Greek judge at its helm
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) elected on Monday judge Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos as its new president, making him the first Greek to hold that position.
He succeeds Italy's Guido Raimondi and will take office on May 5, the court said in a press release.

Head of European rights court visits Greece
European Court of Human Rights President Guido Raimondi was in Athens on Thursday to mark Greece's entry into the Superior Courts Network, created by the ECHR to facilitate the exchange of information between national superior courts.
The Italian judge met with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, parliamentary spokesman Nikos Voutsis and Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis.

Romania Expects More Time to Improve Overcrowded Jails
The European Court of Human Rights is set to rule on Tuesday in several cases against Romania about inhuman conditions in the country's prisons.
Romania is reportedly in line for a "pilot" ruling, an instrument of the ECHR designed to identify structural problems underlying repetitive cases against many countries and impose an obligation on states to address those problems.
Turkish judge elected as vice president of ECHR
The European Court of Human Rights has elected two new vice-presidents: I??l Karaka? from Turkey and András Sajó from Hungary. They have both been elected for a three-year term and will take up their respective duties on Nov. 1.
