Politico: Georgieva's World Bank Dealings Spark Conflict of Interest Fears

Outgoing EU Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva earlier this year negotiated changes in the way the union funds the World Bank, "her former and future employer," Politico argues.

A new arrangement with the World Bank "is raising alarm bells at the Commission and the European Parliament about a potential conflict of interest," according to a piece published on Wednesday.

President 'Not Bulgaria's EU Commissioner Nominee'

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will not be the country's nomination for European Commissioner, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.

Borisov is yet to make clear who will be proposed as a successor to Kristalina Georgieva, the Bulgarian EU Commissioner who on Friday said she would leave in January to take over a CEO position at the World Bank Group.

EU Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva has said she is leaving the EU's executive body the take up a senior position at the World Bank.

The development is due to take effect as of January 02, 2017, Georgieva has said in a statement.

Her new appointment means Bulgaria will have to propose a successor.

After being unsuccessful in the round of voting, Irina Bokova is on the way of becoming Deputy Secretary General of the UN, reported The Guardian, cited by Nova TV and Darik radio.

"It is claimed that the Russians are furious that, under pressure from the European Union, Bulgaria nominated another candidate - European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva," writes the newspaper.
