A letter of PM Boyko Borisov sent to President of the EC Jean-Claude Juncker informs on the cabinet's decision to nominate MEP Maria Gabriel for Bulgaria's next EU commissioner, stating his certainty that she will have her valuable contribution to the Commission's work, quoted by BNR.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov's new cabinet, at its first meeting on Wednesday, nominated Mariya Gabriel, an MEP from the centre-right European People's Party, for the post of EU Commissioner.

Borissov's office said he had informed the President of the European Commission about the decision.

After the end of the first sitting of the new government of Bulgaria, Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva announced that the Bulgarian nomination for European commissioner is Maria Gabriel, BNR reported.

To become commissioner, Maria Gabriel, who has been EPP MEP since 2007, will undergo a European Parliament hearing.
