Government condemns vandalism of MP's Thessaloniki office by club fans

Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas condemned the attack at the office of a New Democracy lawmaker by PAOK fans in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Wednesday evening.

"We understand the love the friends PAOK have for their team, but we consider any violence unacceptable," he said. "Violence has no room in democracy."

Center-right New Democracy is to propose the creation of a special investigative committee to probe former alternate justice minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos in connection with possible interventions in the alleged bribery scandal involving Swiss drugs manufacturer Novartis, ND's party secretary Stavros Kalafatis said in a written statement on Wednesday. 

Conservative lawmaker's office vandalized in Thessaloniki

Unidentified assailants threw paint and spared slogan on the outside walls and main entrance door of the office of New Democracy lawmaker Stavros Kalafatis in Thessaloniki early Wednesday morning.

In a statement apparently aimed at the leftist-led coalition government, the conservative MP said that "any kind of political tolerance for violence is complicity."
