Sofia Sity Court Holds Trial Against ex-IntMin Tsvetan Tsvetanov

A closed-doors trial against former Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov was held Thursday and is due to continue on September 29.

In the third and last case against Tsvetanov, the defendant is charged with allowing illegal surveillance while he was in office.

Sofia City Court has adjourned the trial a number of times for different reasons.

Bulgarian Ex Interior Minister Decries Backslide in Trafficking Fight

Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Deputy Chair of center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), has complained of a decline in the sphere of fighting human trafficking.

Tsvetanov, former Interior Minister, presented a report on the topic at an international conference on human trafficking in Munich, according to reports of the GERB press office.

Probe into Stanishev's Wife Under Way - Chief Prosecutor

Monika Stanisheva, the partner of socialist leader Sergey Stanishev, is under investigation over the notorious Hochegger affair, Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor confirmed.

Sotir Tsatsarov told reporters she had already been interrogated by police in relation to a report by the so-called "Hochegger Committee" operating within the previous Parliament.

Ex-Interior Minister Tsvetanov to Face the Court for 3d Time This Week

Sofia City Court will hold a first hearing in the case against ex-interior minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and three former heads of the surveillance agency for illegal wiretapping. 

The four are accused of failing to control the legal application of special surveillance devices.
