Turkey and EU set to sign MoU next week to upgrade Customs Union

Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci and the EU commissioner for trade will sign a memorandum of understanding next week to draw framework of upgrading the Customs Union, EU Minister Volkan Bozk?r has stated, noting that one provision in the accord will automatically make Turkey part of any free trade agreement deal that the EU signs with a third party.

EU Minister to attend April 24 ceremony at Armenian Patriarchate

EU Minister Volkan Bozk?r will represent the Turkish government at a religious ceremony to be held at the Armenian Patriarchate on April 24 to honor the memory of Anatolian Armenians killed during World War I. The ceremony will be the first for the Armenian Patriarchate in Istanbul.

Turkey's EU Minister disapproves of remarks by Mahçupyan over 1915

EU Minister Volkan Bozk?r has expressed unease over remarks by Prime Ministerial adviser Etyen Mahçupyan that it was impossible to say that Armenians were not subjected to a genocide in 1915.

Mahçupyan?s description ?was not appropriate for his title of adviser,? Bozk?r said on April 16 during a televised interview.

Three Turks drowned at Spanish resort during education project

Two hearing impaired Turkish students and one teacher were drowned on April 13 in the Spanish resort of Marbella, where they had been involved in an education program.

?akir Çelik, 19, Serdar Fidan, 18, and computer teacher Ümit Nalbant, 30, were drowned at sea, while 17-year-old student Hur?it Özbay was rescued by lifeguards at the last minute.
